W HY DOES SHE STAY?

                                      WHY DOES SHE STAY

Domestic violence is one of the miseries that millions of women and even a few men fall into every year.

Domestic violence happens to everyone, all races ,all religions and it's not even a women's issue as some people think although 85% of the abusers are men.see also;domestic violence data.

It happens in families, intimate and long-term relationships.

Photo from google.domestic violent victim

Some of the abusers usually have had abad childhood for example if someone was savagely and repeatedly abused by their step parent or even their biological parent.

Some of the warning signs of an abuser are, creating an illusion that you're the dominate partner in a relationship. They first idolize you in the beginning, they praise you and love everything about you.

The second step is isolating the victim so that she's far away from family members and friends. He might do this by suggesting you move to a new city far from them by bringing up excuses of why you should move in order to convince you.

The abuser then introduces the threat to victim in order to see her reaction then they proceed to physically abusing the victim.

Most of the women don't realize that they are being abused and that's why they stay. They just see themselves as very strong women just in love with troubled men and think that it's kinda normal.

The other reason she stays maybe , being afraid to move away from the abuser because she might of being killed and stalked by the abuser.

Over 70% of the murders of domestic violence happens after the victim decides to end the relationship.

Victims are advised to break the silence and tell those around them what they go through.

IS SPACE A HUMAN PLACE?

                                                            IS SPACE A HUMAN PLACE

Alot of efforts have been made by astronomers to study the space, get to space and to live in space but nobody knows whether space is a human place,in order to know this alot of risks have to be made.

There are several risks NASA is researching for a Mars mission. The risks are grouped into five categories related to the stresses they place on the space traveler: Gravity fields, isolation/confinement, hostile/closed environments, space radiation, and distance from Earth. see also;risks of space flight

photo from google;collision of the Iridium satellite.

Iridium Satellite was destroyed on February 10 2009in an unprecedented collision with a Russian Satellite.Even though space junk is a problem when it comes to space exploration some archaeologists believe that some pieces of junk are useful. For example the Indonesia's Palapa Al satellite which was launched as a symbol of trying to unite an archipelago of hundred of highlands with different languages and different cultural traditions and so it's a powerfulsymbol of Indonesia's nationhood.

Archaeologists believe that helping people to reconnect with such will make them feel that they have the right to have a say in future directions in space technology which is already a preserve of the wealthy elites.

There are some qualifications that an astronaut must have to visit space. To be considered for the NASA astronaut program is you must be a U.S. citizen. Dual citizenship is okay.

NASA sets three bare minimum requirements for their astronaut application. First, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, biological or physical science, computer science, or math. Second, you must have three years of related professional experience or 1,000 hours of piloting. That professional experience could be teaching or time spent pursuing an advanced degree. And third, you must be able to pass something called the NASA long-duration Astronaut physical. This closes chances for some of the space archaeologists to visit space.

Space technology enables humans to connect with those on Earth. For example holding Video conferences.

The satellites that orbit the Earth, send and receive data and signals to different devices. Satellite signals are used for mobile communication and over Internet, which have revolutionized the way we connect and work. Mobile communication and Internet have made it possible to connect and communicate with anyone in any corner of the world.

UNUSUAL DISEASES

                      UNUSUAL DISEASES

Despite extensive research no treatment modality is effective for both fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndromes.

The fibromyalgia patients have some common symptoms including generalized body pain, fatigue, digestive issues, chest pains, brain fog and chronic pain is ubiquitous in fibromyalgia patients although some patients don't experience it.see also;fibromyalgia symptoms and signs

photo from google;signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia

One of the patient who suffers from fibromyalgia says that drugs help him to curb most of his pain. Exercise also help him to stay active.

Exercise may improve patients’ symptoms and quality of life, but an exercise program may be challenging because of pain, stiffness, and fatigue. Lifestyle physical activity involves accumulating self-selected, moderate-intensity activity over the course of the day; this may be easier to sustain over time. There is evidence for the short-term effectiveness of aerobic exercise for treatment but not for strengthening exercise. Flexibility training, yoga, and tai chi have gained increasing interest as adjunctive treatments. Patients need to develop a tolerance for the exertion associated with physical activity if it is to be effective and sustainable.

Brain fog symptom makes it hard for the patients to remember to take their drugs as Mabel Peralta one of the patients explains.

Chronic Fatigue syndrome(CFS) has got some similar symptoms to those of Fibromyalgia such as fatigue, sleep problems and brain fog.

Other symptoms are muscle and joint pain, severe headaches some people have tender lymph nodes in neck/armpits, frequent sore throats, chills and night sweats, allergic sensitivities or digestive problems.

The main symptom of CFS is feeling extremely tired. Like in Fibromyalgia symptoms vary from one patient to another and the severity vary from day to day. Unlike in Fibromyalgia where patients feel better after doing exercise Patients of CFS aren't advices to do exercise because it makes the matters worse.

Patients of CFS have problems with moving around and may need to rest often. Although there's no criteria for diagnosing CFS doctors are advised to review patients personal and family medical history, conduct a thorough physical and mental status exam and order blood and urine or other tests in order to arrive at an accurate diagnosis.

                             EARNING SELF-RESPECT

Most of us struggle  to put up healthy boundaries with people. We all  admit that we do have people in our lives who treat us so  poorly, they talk down to us,they boss us around and sometimes they are really rude and aggressive and we really struggle to find away to tell them to stop.
Times are gone when we were really young   and we had no option than to let people treat us in  undesirable way. We're now grownups  and  have the ability to do whatever it takes to just get treated rightly.

Here are some of  the things you should do to  set boundaries and ensure you get treated  in the right manner.

First you should know that you have the right to walk away from someone who treats you badly. For example if your boyfriend is always or sometimes speaks to you rudely learn to just walk away the moment he is doing it.Through this you will earn self respect and be  able to teach people how they should treat you.

Secondly, You have the right to say no. Saying no doesn't make you a jerk, it doesn't make you selfish, it doesn't make you  look rude and horrible person. It means we recognize what's right for us and we have the right  to say no.
.Lastly recognize any toxic relationship that you have with any of  your friends and distance yourself from such people. It doesn't matter whether they   are your relatives or not because sometimes people who are close to us like our parents maybe toxic.Just make sure you're not around them and  avoid taking  any part in their discussions
Setting this boundaries can be really hard because we are afraid our  friends Will view us as selfish people but think to yourself, ,is it important for people to like you or is it important for you to like you.
Don't  let anyone treat you like shit.

ONE OF  THE WORST  ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTERS

Floods are among the most devastating  natural disaster in the world, claiming more lives and causing more property damage than any other natural phenomena. Flooding  is the most common of all environmental hazards and affects  around 75 million people  worldwidesee also;consequences of floods

                                              photo from google.
Across the globe, floods have posed tremendous danger to people's lives and properties. Floods cause about one third of all deaths, one third of all injuries  and one third of all damages from natural disasters.
The rainy season  is undoubtedly not the best time of the year in Kenya. The period comes with perennial problems of flooding  with the resultant loss of lives and properties.
The disaster has been perilous to people, communities  and institutions. Recently an illegally  and irregularly constructed  man-made dam within the vast Patel coffee estate located in Solai,Nakuru broke it's banks gushing out 190million liters of water through  settlements  leaving  in it's wake gruesome deaths  horrible  injuries  (physical, mental  and emotional )massive  destruction  of property and unprecedented displacement of people. While solai residents were still bemoaning their fate the fury of flooding was spreading swiftly  across other parts of the country .

photo from from google;Solai dam tragedy
Heavy rains being experienced in many parts of the country since beginning of this month ,causing floods, flash floods and casualties. On 18th October 2019 Lamu residents  were hit by floods as River  Lagwarera burst its banks.More than 1000 residents  including school going children in the villages in Boni forests were affected by the floods. The seasonal river originates from Ethiopian highlands. Many students missed school for several days as they were forced to wait until the floods abate.
Floods have not only left several people homeless, disrupted business activities, the floods ravaging communities  in western Kenya,Isiolo,Garissa,Turkana,Tana River,Wajir etc are also threatening to expose residents to water borne diseases such as Cholera,Bilharzia and Typhoid. The congestion of camps by the homeless people  also poses  a big  health challenge   in terms of communicable diseases. Floods also enhances environmental degradation  and also the normal production  and distribution of goods. There's also interfere with the culture as seen in congestion of households with children of 15years huddled  with their parents in the camping structures, this contributes to social and health problems.
Some of the measures that are being taken to control floods are constructing furrows  to drain water, construction of dykes along the river banks, dredging  of river channels  and building  dams across rivers.

                                               COVID-19 AND THE ECONOMY

China which was the first country to be affected by the Corona virus  and is the world's second largest economy and is a global manufacturing hub and with the country in lockdown  a majority  of developed and developing countries are already experiencing the negative effects opf the virus due to disruption of the global global supply chain. In China the various numbers of the industrial production retails have been falling to 20%

photo from google;how corona virus has slowed down the economy growth
According to the Organization for economic cooperation and development the world's economy is now projected to be growing by 2.4%from an estimated 2.9% in2019.

Kenya which mainly depends on  the imports from China where 21% of Kenya's total imports are form  China  has not been spared in this. With  the current lockdown activities within manufacturing sector  are likely to be disrupted.imports from china to kenya
In  the Kenyan stock market most foreigners who had already invested are now selling their stocks to other parts of the globe. This began immediately the virus began spreading.
When the first case was reported entry of stockmarkets began to decline for example  stocks for Safaricom declined within a day
The overall impact on the economy will depend on  what goverments will do.If the government decides to keep people at home in  order to stop the spread then the bigger the  effect on the economy. see also;impact of corona virus

                                          THE STANDARD GAUGE RAILWAY

One of the biggest projects that our country ever had since independence was constructing a railway. This dream came true after the completion of the construction of The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) .This was during 2017 when the first-fare paying passengers boarded the Madaraka Express on Madaraka day on 1st June 2017 during the 54th anniversary of Kenyans attainment of selfrule from great Britain.see also:benefits of sgr

The Standard Gauge  Railway has brought upon so many benefits to the people living in Mombasa. One of them being job creation. So many people have been able to secure job opportunities at the Standard Gauge Railway station at Miritini. Personnel employed are such as station agent, senior station superintend, selected station master, junior selected station master, deputy station master etc.see also;list of train workers.
In the train we've also got other employees who offer services to the passengers such  as serving coffee and also maintain the train. For example conductor, second man, telephone maintainer, power maintainer, railway lubricator etc. This has improved the living standards of the employ
ed  people at the SGR ,living in Mombasa.

Transportation of goods exported goods from the port of Mombasa to Nairobi and Naivasha has also improved entrepreneurship around Mombasa since the business men are able to transport or sell their goods to people in Nairobi and other parts of the country on time. This has widened market for their goods thus growth of their businesses. The amount of fragile or perishable goods that are damaged when the goods are transported by buses has also reduced.
The goods are  also transported  at a cheaper cost compared to the bus  transport cost thus enabling them to maximize their profit.

Despite the benefits i've mentioned above there are also some numerous disadvantages that the Standard Gauge Railway has brought upon the people living in Mombasa. One of them being people employed at railway stations are some buses that stopped operating due to lack of  passengers travelling to Mombasa because most of them prefer travelling by the Standard Gauge Railway since its faster and cheaper.

                             CORONA VIRUS ANXIETY

It was on Monday morning, as i was preparing my breakfast when i heard the breaking news on the radio.''The deadly Corona virus is now suspected to be in the country. The states that are likely to be affected are Nairobi,Kisumu and Mombasa in particular. This deadly virus can be contracted through body touching such as kissing or shaking hands. The most effective way to prevent yourself against the disease is by frequently cleaning your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or washing then with soap and water''.My jaw dropped in suprise when i heard the news.I immediately called my mother  and informed her and she was like...''mtoto wangu ukisikia tu mtu amekufa ni ugonjwa huo kuja nyumbani hata hiyo masomo inaweza kaa''๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.She got so insecure but i assured her that there is no confirmed case of the virus in the country.

I had already heard about corona virus which was all over the news for the past three weeks.Everyone is talking and wondering about corona-virus which is has so far killed so many people especially in China.Though there is no confirmed case of the virus that has been reported  in the country, there are rumors spreading all over the social media that  some people are already infected with the disease .
Nairobi has been listed to be among the capital cities in Africa that are at a very high risk.Coastal towns in Mombasa and Kilifi where many tourists visit have also been placed at a high alert.
Some people are now afraid to go to public places such as churches cause they're afraid of getting infected.
I've also noticed that when you cough in the public everyone will stare at you in a weird way. Some people will even leave the place. This is because coughing is one of the symptoms of corona virus alongside fever and shortness of breathe. https://familydoctor.org/condition/coronavirus/https://familydoctor.org/condition/coronavirus/.

image of the new corona-virus from google.
We've also got some myths associated with the virus that are spreading faster than the virus. When we were discussing about the virus with my friend Carol, she told me that she believes that taking alcohol or spraying it allover her body will kill the virus although i told her its a myth she said that is what she firmly believes๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Some people also think that taking a hot shower will kill the virus. This are all  myths because according to the World Health Organization there is no specific  medicine recommended to prevent or cure the Virus   https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public/myth-busters.
One of my friends who lives in Uganda sent me an audio of a pastor talking about the virus. He said that it was a punishment from God and in order to prevent yourself and your family members from getting infected you should get anointed oil from your pastor and make sure you apply it on daily basis.I think this is  a myth too because there is a Nigerian Pastor who also claimed to heal the disease but he ended up getting infected.https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-51710617

Embedded videophoto of the pastor from google.

The government of Kenya has now opened a quarantine center in the capital,Nairobi for any suspected cases. This shows the preparedness of the country to deal with any possible outbreak of the virus.

 MY UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE

Time has been flying by and its hard to believe that i have been in campus for almost two years.I always thought about university so much especially when i was in high school.
I had a glimpse of campus life from my friends who had completed high school and successfully made it to campus. They always told me that campus life would offer me freedom because i'd be away from my strict parents and there would be no more restrictions.
Ours teachers always urged us to work hard so as to attain good grades in our final exams in high school[KCSE]  in order to join university.

I wouldn't say i didn't pass in my KCSE but i could have done much better though i didn't fail,i did 'okay' and so i was able to join Technical University of Mombasa to pursue mass communication.I was so excited because i had always dreamt of living in Mombasa cause i'd be very far away from my strict parents,i'd have fun by going to swim in the ocean and basking on the beaches, eating Swahili meals etc.

Because of unavoidable circumstances i had to travel to Mombasa from Kitui(home) alone , a twelve hour journey.I reported at the school, got admitted and then settled at St Kevin's hostel. After a few days we started attending classes and that"s when i got to make a few friends.

                                               st Kevin hostel.photo Sarah
They'd always ask  me to join them on weekends to go have fun at the clubs but i never turned up because i do not drink  or party but people have a trouble in believing  and understanding that.I never have and I'm not interested in it because that just doesn't seem enjoyable to me.It actually makes me irritated when people call me a liar when i tell them that i never have drank or partied and will because i do not think that's the only way to have fun. There are more things that are enjoyable in campus such as participating in sports Plus i believe its just a waste of time and money that i can spent doing other things that are worth awhile for my campus life.

I do face some challenges such as homesickness etc.
With the hurdles I've come to discover some hidden strengths about myself. One of the challenges being money because of the high cost of living here in Mombasa and so i have to do some part time job while in school. During my first year in campus it was very hard since i wasn't so good at managing my time. I'am a procrastinator and always have been so working, attending classes and submitting assignments  on time was a very big challenge for me.This led me into performing not so well in my exams during the first semester.Right now I've learned how to prioritize and schedule events and studies accordingly.
I also discovered that i can be a good leader. This was during my second semester when we had projects to work on and so we got divided into several groups and i got selected to be the group leader.Through this i learned how to take center of a situation and still remain diplomatic with my fellow students.Through this project also which was on television techniques i got the opportunity to do one of the things that i love most which is doing feature stories.I did one and my group was the second best in the class.

Completing school this year makes me very excited for next year- fingers crossed   ill be at the Capetown university to further my studies.

TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS

We all want to be emotionally and physically closer to one another and this brings up the relationships that we have among each other. We go through difficulties, challenges  and have disagreements but because we value our relationships we make efforts to keep them by trying to solve our issues. But then sometimes our relationships become difficult to work and they become something that has the potential if not corrected to be extremely harmful to our well being.
In a toxic relationship there is the toxic partner and the recipient of the toxic behavior.

Here are some of the examples of  how toxic partner may behave,
If he or she is always making fun of you even when you try to express some serious ideas for example you may come up with the idea of starting up a serious project. He or she will discourage you by implying the idea is silly or stupid but they'll do it in a jokingly  way. This may make you have a low self esteem.

A partner who has a very bad temper is toxic. Sometimes when you disagree or have a different opinion from theirs they get very angry and may not speak to you for some days. Then they'll afterwards put the blame for their temper on you.

a partner who  depends too much on the other for almost everything. They are very nice as long as they get what they need from you. What makes this relationship toxic is that you will end up never doing enough for them and then they'll leave you for some one who can do more for them.

In colleges or universities  there are so many students stuck up in toxic relationships  for various reasons. The main reason is low self esteem, they believe they are unlovable and no one would willingly meet their needs,Some it is because they get financial support from their toxic partners, others it is because of peer pressure, they just want to be in relationships because their friends are and some it is because they love their toxic partners and they do not want to leave them.

In the recent past so many university students have lost their lives by being murdered in cold blood by their lovers.
A Moi university student named Ivy Wangechi was killed by her boyfriend using an axe in  broad daylight. She was a 6th year medical student.Police say Naftali Njahi Kinuthia admitted killing her due to rejection. He claimed to have invested a lot in the girl but she didn't reciprocate his kindness and financial support .(fromthestardard)

Last year two bodies of male and a female university students were found in a rental house in Makutano Meru county, the bodies were already decomposing when they were found. According to the sources a  female student from Kenya Methodist University who was in her fourth year was killed by her boyfriend who was also a student at the Chuka university, this happened when he had gone to visit her.It is believed that he committed suicide after killing her.
So many students and other people have lost their lives because of staying in toxic relationships thinking they can fix them.By all means leave your toxic partner for the sake of your well being.

We all have seen celebrities on the red carpet wearing human hair wigs  that seem to be very soft and smooth but when you try the wig for the first time it doesn't seem  to look quite right and after a few days it becomes very uncomfortable.
From now henceforth fear not cause I am  here to save you from embarrassing yourself from any wig problem .

BELOW ARE  SOME OF THE TIPS AND TRICKS TO CARE FOR WIGS

1. HOW TO CHOOSE
The first thing that is very essential one should know is  how to choose the right wig in terms of color, price, size etc.Choose an affordable wig  and decide whether you'd prefer a synthetic wig or a human hair. You should also make sure that the wig suits  the shape of your face  and that it compliments your skin tone.Ensure you measure the size of your head to avoid purchasing an oversize or under size wig.

2.HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR NATURAL HAIR WHILE WEARING A WIG.
In order to avoid damaging your hair because wig can cause formation of bacteria, dandruff,or breakage of your hair ensure you wash your hair regularly, make sure you do not leave your hair wet under a wig, wear a wig cap and moisturize your scalp .

3.HOW TO WASH YOUR WIG.
Ensure you have a brush or a comp, for straight or wavy wigs use a wire wig brush while for the curly wigs use a wide-toothed comb.
The other requirements are shampoo, cold water,lukewarm-water and hair conditioner.
First comp your wig then  fill in a basin with cold water and stir in a small amount of shampoo, soak it for about five minutes.Rinse the wig in cold water thoroughly and avoid rubbing to prevent tangling.lastly spray a leave in conditioner.you can now rinse it in lukewarm water then let it dry.
blow-dry it but remember to avoid too high temperatures on your wig because they can get damaged and brush it using an appropriate comb or brush to make it smooth.
